Chapter 3

When Amanda gives Jeffrey a book he asks her for her address so that he can return it to her when he is done with it.  She gives him her address and then tells him,
"but you can't come there, you can't even be here."
-What does she mean by this statement?

  1. I think it means that because Jeffrey is a white person (not trying to racist) and he's s'posed to be on the west side, and the east side is for black people ( not trying to be racist) people on the east side might be mean to him and he's not allowed in the east side.

  2. Si, I think that Bugsy has a point, the west side is for whites and the east is for blacks, since the town is heavily segregated.

  3. I think that Amanda doesn't want him to get a bad rep for being the only white (not racist) on the black side (not racist).
